Methodology Design: Ed-Tech Skills for Teachers

Knowledge of what is does not open the door directly to what should be.

- Albert Einstein-

This methodology includes 23 teaching competencies grouped into five sections. We chose the ISTE Standards for Teachers as baseline because they are the most widely accepted group of standards focused on technology education in the world.

For school teachers, the self-reported reflection focuses on the practical use of technology in the classroom, without judgment. Each of the 23 competencies is supported by multiple dimensions (see below), and each dimension is "measured" with situation-specific questions carefully mapped to the ISTE performance indicators.

For example, below question targets ability to Model collaborative knowledge, which is one of seven dimensions of the Authentic Tasks competency:

I ask students to collaborate outside of school...

A. Never.

B. On major group projects.

C. Through the class website for communication.

D. Through the class wiki for collaboration when needed.

E. Constantly, my classroom is flipped.
